Not many people know of the standing stone at Nether Cluny about one and half a mile outside Dufftown. It’s a single stone in a field thought to be part of a larger stone circle from the Neolithic and Bronze Age. The folklore attached to this menhir is that a couple of years ago the farmer who owned that land removed the from the field. The next day all the cattle in this field had died and it was sure caused by the removal of the stone. The stone was immediately put back and no cattle has died since. Maybe that’s why the stone is now set in a concrete base…
